Volunteering for the Future: new approaches and new ideas

The Manchester Museum, Imperial War Museum North and the VoCH European Partnership are hosting a conference and training programme in Manchester 9 – 13 June 2009.

This conference will explore the future role of volunteers in cultural institutions and
consider innovative and emerging volunteer practice as a means to engage with non-traditional volunteers, vocational and skills training and cross sector partnerships.

During the conference delegates will have the opportunity to engage with good practice examples, share experiences and exchange ideas on key themes and current trends in cultural volunteering across Europe:
• Vocational training for volunteers in cultural venues
• Volunteering & working with vulnerable adults
• Engaging non-traditional volunteers
• New approaches
• Case studies of innovative practice

The programme will be interactive and include speakers, workshop sessions, trainers and consultants. It will generate discussion and debate and facilitate a high level of involvement from the delegates; sharing their own practice, challenging and questioning the work of colleagues across the sector and exploring innovative methods of engagement.

Target Audience
Museum educators, cultural administrators, museum and heritage professionals, adult learning co-ordinators, volunteer co-ordinators

There will be 40 UK places available and 40 European places

It is possible for participants from European countries other than the UK to apply to their National Agency to receive full funding to take part in the event. The grant would cover the accommodation, subsistence and travel costs (which you should calculate individually) for a maximum of 1500 Euro. There is no course fee.
