Fixed Term for 2 years

The British Institute at Ankara is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow in Ottoman Studies for a fixed term of two years. The post is based at the BIAA’s office in Ankara. The post will involve working on a new British Academy-sponsored research initiative, Islam, Trade and Politics across the Indian Ocean: Interaction between Southeast Asia and Tur key and the Ottoman Empire 16th-20th centuries. The Research Fellow’s principal task will be to work on a project to publish English translations of Ottoman documents relating to Southeast Asia. Accordingly, the successful candidate will have extensive experience in working with Ottoman archival documents, particularly of the 19th century. An excellent knowledge of Ottoman Turkish and English is required. No previous knowledge of Southeast Asia is necessary. A completed PhD at time of application is preferred.
