MA Archaeology at Birkbeck

August 28, 2008

Please see details below about the MA Archaeology course at Birkbeck.
Interviews are scheduled throughout September with the course starting in
October.

Building on a long and distinguished tradition at Birkbeck, the MA Archaeology
introduces advanced archaeological methods and practice. It is suitable for
both volunteer and professional archaeologists and has much to offer anybody
interested in developing an understanding of this exciting discipline. The
degree teaches many skills, including survey, excavation and post-excavation
work, all learnt in the context of wider interpretive and analytical issues
fundamental to archaeology.

The MA in Archaeology at Birkbeck consists of the following core and optional
modules:

Bones in Archaeology
Prospecting for Archaeological Sites
Experimental Archaeology
Archaeology and Development, The Law, Education and Museums.
Field Survey: Field Monuments and Sites
Environmental Archaeology
Geomatics
Post Excavation and Publication
The Archaeological Recording of Standing Buildings
Geophysical Survey

The MA Programme has a strong practical base which includes working on sites
in the London area, intended for those who enjoy archaeology for its own sake
as well as those with more professional or work-related interests.  It can be
taken over two years part-time.
