Vardarski Rid Excavations – Macedonia

TeamThe 2008 TFAHR Archaeological Expedition will again investigate the site of Vardarski Rid in the Vardar (Axios) River Valley, building upon our work there in 1995, 1996 and 2007.

The objective of the project is to illuminate the history and cultural milieu of the lower Vardar Valley, a critical region in the ancient kingdom of Macedonia.

Opportunities for volunteers include:Excavation
1. Actual excavation work
2. Documentation of site
3. Processing finds and pottery (washing, drawing, documenting, restoration)
4. Evening lectures
5. Occasional field trips to nearby archaeological sites

Dates: 30 June – 30 July 2008

No experience necessary, minimun age: 18

TFAHR will provide accommodations in a nearby motel (double or triple occupancy with private bath), and meals during the work-week at no cost to the volunteers. Volunteers pay for their own beverages at all meals. Weekend expenses are the responsibility of the volunteers.

Cost: Volunteers must make their own way to Gevgelija, Republic of Macedonia.
