Evoramonte Axis Mundi – Portugal

CastleThe castle and fortified town of Évoramonte may have once been the lost town of Dipo that is known to have existed during the Romanization of this area of Lusitania and was enumerated on ancient maps.

This campaign aims to conduct several excavations at the town of Evoramonte, located in the Alto Alentejo of Portugal, and to sample the stratigraphies at this site.

Participants will be working with other foreigners as well as students from Portuguese universities and will be taught all of the introductory methodologies of field excavation, management, recording and lab work.

The excavation will last for 8 weeks and lodging and meals are covered during the work day.

Cost for participation: 4 weeks, €800

Dates: 30 June – 1 August 2008
