Brayford Community Excavation – North Devon

February 2, 2008

Brayford Community Archaeological Group along with the University of Exeter and Heritage Lottery Funded XArch Project will be running a week long community excavation at Welcombe Farm, Charles, Brayford, North Devon.

volunteersThe main aim of the excavation will be to investigate two of the outer ditches of a possible Iron Age or Roman hillside enclosure.

This is a community excavation and we are inviting members of the public to take part in the excavation.  It is great for students or anyone seeking some practical experience.

Volunteers can work either for a single day or for the week and no experience is necessary.

A small team of archaeologists from Exeter University and staff from the XArch Project will provide training on all aspects of excavation.

All we ask is that you bring your own refreshments and, if possible, a trowel.

We will be starting at 9.30am and finishing at 5pm each day.  volunteers

Dates:  21 – 26 April 2008
