Dr. M. Aylwin Cotton Foundation Awards

January 24, 2008

The Dr. M. Aylwin Cotton Foundation invites applications for Fellowship Awards for studies in the archaeology, architecture, history, language, and art of the Mediterranean.

In this context the word “Mediterranean” is used without geographical limitations.

Fellowships will normally be up to one year’s duration, commencing on September 1 following the award, and may in special cases be renewable.

Save in exceptional cases the sums awarded will each have a maximum value of £10,000, and will be expected to cover the costs of accommodation, travel, photography, photocopying, and all other expenses relating to the work for which the fellowship is awarded.

These will be awarded to persons engaged in personal academic research, normally showing a level of achievement comparable to a PhD (although no formal academic qualifications will be necessary).

Fellowships will not be granted for the furtherance of doctoral research.

Fellowships, grants, and other awards are open to men and women of all nationalities.

Publication Grants

These are available towards the cost of publication of academic research already completed or imminently available for publication.

Closing date

The closing date for the receipt of applications and letter from Referees for awards for the academic session 2008/2009 is 28th FEBRUARY 2008.  Decisions on awards will be made by 31st May 2008.

Fellowship Awards will be paid in a single lump sum on or after 1st September following the award.

The Trustees wish it to be known that no further awards will be made in respect of academic sessions following 2008/2009.

Is it true that the Dr. M. Aylwin Cotton Foundation is now defunct? If so, that’s sad.

the website of the Cotton Foundation seems to be just a general search engine for grants of any kind. I opened in the last years a real page with fellowships and publication grants about Mediterranean archaeology/studies: does anyone know how to get there? What happened? maybe related to dr. Cotton’s death the program was canceled?

I have tried to find out any information about the Foundation but can’t find anything out. If anyone out there knows what happened, please let us know.
