Past Horizons is based in the beautiful county of East Lothian iTraprain Lawn Scotland and operates from an Old School a stones throw from Traprain Law which was a major centre for the Votadini an Iron Age Tribe, but the Law’s history began long before that (see the picture of bronze axe heads discovered in 2004).  Traprain Law does not give up its mysteries easily and every year Axe Hoardarchaeologists try to uncover more of its story.   Read more: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/prehistoric/past/past49.html

There are always some volunteer opportunities in Scotland and people come from all over the world to participate.  The National Trust for Scotland operates a low cost scSt. Kilda heme called Thistle Camps which focus mainly on conservation and archaeological work but places fill quickly so make your enquiries now.  We have worked with Thistle Camp volunteers in the past and they always have a great time and come back year after year.  You can also volunteer to work on the remote and fascinating Island of St. Kilda

Cousland Village HallThere are also some Archaeological Societies which you can join including the brilliant Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society who we are working with on a community project (involving the locals, Young Archaeologists Clubs and volunteers from Archaeology companies) which starts next week at the Village of Cousland in Midlothian (picture left is the village hall where we will be pottery washing).  Our first project is field walking and geophysics trying to locate the position of an 18th century Pottery (next weekend) which will add to our increasing knowledge of Pottery making in Scotland.  We will keep you posted on the outcome….

So, if you have any questions about Scotland or Scottish archaeology please ask.
