The summer programme of work will concentrate on a second ring-ditch located 5 metres to the south of the reconstructed Bronze Age timber circle, and the excavation of the large enclosure ditch.
In the meantime, the winter programme will concentrate on the reconstruction of a late Iron Age/Roman Roundhouse, donated by Liverpool’s ‘Museum of Life’.
Further work will be carried out on the Chapel site, to investigate the hypothesis that the chapel is sitting on a much earlier ritual/burial site, dating back to the middle-late Bronze Age (1500-800BC).
The graveyard has begun to produce increasing quantities of Bronze Age pottery (1100-900 BC) as well as human cremated bone. Geophysics of the surrounding area has revealed several circular and sub-circular features that may prove to be satellite features of the known ring-ditches to the north.
Excavation of burials will also continue within the graveyard and chapel itself.![]()

I just finished my 2nd consecutive year participating in a 3 week training program with the Poulton Research Project. I highly recommend it for both students and volunteers. Mike Emery, the director, along with the talented team of people who assist him, provide comprehensive training at this extraordinary site. My plan is to return next year
